The Longest Ride Reviews
The Longest Ride is exactly what you’d expect from a Nicholas Sparks flick—sentimental, cheesy, and drenched in romance—but here’s the kicker: it works. The chemistry between Scott Eastwood and Britt Robertson is spot on. They totally nail that push-pull dynamic between a rough-around-the-edges cowboy and a city-bound art lover. It’s the kind of pairing that makes you root for them even when the script goes full cliché. What really helps this one stand out is the dual love story. Alan Alda as Ira? Perfection. His scenes add this whole other layer of emotional weight, and let’s be real—watching him reflect on his epic love story gives you all the feels. Plus, those bull-riding scenes? They don’t hold back. Visually, this movie is stunning, especially when the action heats up on the rodeo circuit. Sure, The Longest Ride sticks to the Sparks playbook, but it has just enough heart and a couple of twists to keep you hooked. It’s not revolutionary, but if you’re in the mood for a love story that’ll make you swoon, cry a little, and leave you with that warm, fuzzy feeling, this one’s a solid pick. Just embrace the cheese and enjoy the ride.
I've seen so many negative views about this film, with critics saying the film tried to connect two completely different love stories, staring actors who did not give there best, and overall the movie being too long. Well I disagree completely. This is by far one of my new favourite films. I loved how it included two love stories, and they were connected!! Both sets of couples had to make a choice whether to sacrifice their dreams to create a new dream, and live new lives with the person they love. The film wasn't too long bc the story was a journey. I hate it when it feels like the couples in romcoms have hardly known each other. This film is realistic because it shows the trials they go through, both Ira and Ruth, and Sophia and Luke. My heart was so invested in this film, I cried through their trials, and was so giddy by the end. Highly recommend, a must watch!!
I like the contrast between the past and the present in this movie. It's overall a really decent chick flick.
Excellent! Love story with great acting by Scott Eastwood and Britt Robinson, not to forget Alan alda!
"The Longest Ride" is a strange mashup of two storylines that feel like two completely different movies. It seems there is an attempt to connect the two and find parallels, but to me, it just felt kind of boring because I was never really invested in either storyline. There are some sweet and romantic moments, but not enough for me to care about anyone in the movie if I am being honest. I think the movie is shot and put together pretty well, and the performances are fine, I just didn't get into it. Overall, to me, this is one of the less engaging Nicholas Sparks movies and I really never got into it or got truly emotionally invested.
This was a really good movie and I enjoyed it
This was a very enjoyable movie that was so moving. It's definitely worth the watch.
i LOVED this movie-lots of life lessons on what's important
Clearly Sparks for all the wrong reasons.
The critics rate it a three, while real people rate it a seven. I never pay attention to the critics... The movie is touching in many ways and definitely worth the watch.
A simply lovely movie which is about love and is one of my favourites, played excellently by the lead actors. Just let it flow over you.
Despite some plot holes - I really wanted to know more about characters like Luiz - and a certain predictability, very competently made and riveting love stories intertwining 2 unexpected themes - bull riding and arts - and showing off the mix of tradition and progress in a state that's become a focal point of interest to many people in my life, North Carolina. And just like critics correctly predicted, the "target audience" rated it much better than they did (twice as well).
This is a bit cheesy and sentimental but I liked the fact that it has multiple stories within stories (i.e. sub plots). At first it seems like an almost typical rom com/teenage film but I enjoyed hearing the stories from the elderly man that the main characters save from a car accident. I found it particularly nice to see how close the main characters, adolescents, became to the eldery man. It is certainly a somewhat thoughtful film, even if/though it was too sugary sweet for my personal liking - there are certainly some poignant lines of dialogue, in the script. There are, obviously, some morals present (about love and perserverance)- as I hinted, it may feel a bit 'holier than thou' but not horrendously so and for the most part I found it an easy, light-ish watch. Not a bad film. Not brilliant, not bad.
Seems like the "top" critics are the real losers with this movie. Great chick flick. Nice ending. Easy to follow. No Brainer. What else do the losers want?
The modern couple's story is very cliche and boring but the older couple's story really touched me. Those short scenes made up for the whole movie in my opinion.
Love this sappy movie. I'll be watching again.
This is a very heartwarming and touching movie. It is a love story of two couples from different eras and how their stories parallel each other in the search for happiness.
The Longest Ride is a film based on a couple who falls in love, even with their differences. Luke is a bull rider who is looking to make a comeback after an injury. Sophia is an art major who is deeply inspired about art. Luke and Sophia meet at a bull riding show, and they instantly hit it off when they saw each other later that night. One night they saved an elderly man named Ira, an art collector, who would change both of Luke and Sophia's lives. This film had many sweet moments, while still keeping it entertaining. One thing I thoroughly enjoyed was the flashbacks incorporated throughout the film. Ira talked about his wife and how they were able to make their relationship work so well. They showed these moments through flashbacks, and related them to Luke and Sophia's relationship. Ira talked so passionately about his wife, and it was so nice to see the similarities between their love stories. They came from very different generations, but the way they were related was fun to watch. The flashbacks also gave the audience something to relate to through the different generations. Couples watching could easily see how love is the same throughout so many generations and time periods. The audience could also relate those flashbacks to their parents or grandparents. I really enjoyed how it gave the audience something to relate to. Another thing that I really enjoy about this film is how it shows that each person in the relationship has different passions. Luke's passion is bull riding, and Sophia's passion is art. These differences may cause rough patches in relationships, but this film is a great example of how to not let that happen. I really like how Luke fully supports Sophia's dreams. Many times we see the woman just following her partners dreams, rather than her own. Luke is very supportive and this is such a good characteristic of a healthy relationship. Sophia is also supportive of Luke and isn't selfish when it comes to her dreams. I think the film does a good job of staying away from certain stereotypes. Lastly, I enjoyed how much this movie had me on the edge of my seat. I would not consider this a boring movie, as I felt entertained the whole time. The flashbacks definitely contributed to this. It was almost as if there were 2 story lines at once. I think it was a really good balance and wasn't overdone. The flashbacks stayed parallel with the main story line throughout the movie. I also was not able to predict what was going to happen. In many films you can often predict what was going to happen next. I was surprised many times throughout the movie. I was most glad that the ending was not what I expected. It totally took a turn and surprised me. My favorite part of the film was the ending because of how unique it was to other love stories. I was entertained throughout the full movie, and I loved the ending. It is definitely worth the watch.
