The Magnificent Seven Reviews

Apr 21, 2025

Unoriginal. Poor production. It's rare for a good movie to come out of Hollywood in this day and age, especially Westerns. This remake failed on all accounts. Unfortunate.

I strongly disagree with many of the poor reviews of this film. I thought it was a fantastic film that was very well written, acted and which had great action. It is one of those films i can watch over and over again.

Pale imitation of the original. Gatling guns don't have anywhere near the range shown in the movie. Chris Pratt gets shot three times then calmly walks across the field, ignored by all the bad guys and blows up the gatling gun. The only decent performance was Vincent D'onofrio. Makes one appreciate the original all the more.

Good acting, Good action, Good movie.

Another instance of Hollywood's inability to make decent new films. This unnecessary and subpar remake fails on just about every level. Id strongly advise people to watch the original, or better still: The Seven Samurai, which even the most ardent Denzel Washington fan, will find vastly more entertaining

It's an entertaining western with great action scenes and stunts. However, by trying to combine light humour and jokes with deep character motivations hurts the plot.

La historia es muy lineal y en ocasiones absurda, pero los personajes son muy buenos. Los escenarios del lejano oeste y la vida de los pueblerinos reflejan paz y miedo a la vez. Tiene momentos muy buenos pero le falta algo.

The Magnificent Seven (2016) is a visually impressive and action-packed film that offers a satisfying retelling of a classic story. While it may not be as groundbreaking as the original, it is a well-crafted and entertaining adventure.

To consider this a real western is an insult to the genre. Its a silly movie that is impossible to take seriously.

Better than the original Magnificent Seven but still not the same level of masterpiece as Seven Samurai, Antoine Fuqua's remake doesn't shy away from unchecked malice of evil men with some truly gripping action, brilliant performances and an almost epic-sized finale that's as intense as it is poignant & beautiful.

No comparison to the Original Movie

Killing certain members of the seven was unnecessary and even if they wanted to pull at heartstrings and show that sometimes the good guys lose, did they really have to kill 4/7? They could've gotten away with just killing Faraday (Chris Pratt) and that would've been enough because he sacrifices himself to take out the big gun but instead they kill four out of the seven and half the town, if not more. At that point, the towns people should've just left. Jack Horne (Vincent D'Onofrio), Goodnight Robicheaux (Ethan Hawke), Billy Rocks (Lee Byung-hun) and Josh Faraday (Chris Pratt) were good characters. I feel like there could've been a good squeal if they'd only killed Faraday off.

I loved the reboot :)

Some decent action sequences but it dragged with horrible dialog. It's not easy to make Denzel look bad but somehow they did. Watch the original instead.

Didn’t really have much expectation on this movie but I really liked it . Great cast !!!

I could, and have, watched this movie at a moments notice. I’ve watched it on commercial television flipping through the channels even though I own it. It’s what you want precisely when you don’t know it’s what you need. “The Pigeon Brothers weren’t famous for very long”. But this film will be. Fantastic.

Remake tanto semplice quanto spettacolare e ben riuscito.

On it's own it's a good movie, but as a remake it's half decent. The pacing isn't bad but is the biggest change here compared the original despite being almost exactly the same runtime whoch is weird. It takes about 10-15 minutes longer for the team to assemble and it sort of starts to drag a bit. It also goes for more character driven moments in the middle which the original did too for certain members but it isn't as tightly done with the main story if that makes sense. The ending also which is very entertaining, is a little bit over the top and feels like it's an absurd amount of bad guys like zombie hordes. It feels like this somehow is slower at points but also too fast somehow but still works suprisngly. This is mainly because the direction and everything else is solid. Denzel is the best character and the cinematography in terms of special effects, camerawork, lighting, framing, and set design are all top notch. The problem is the characters aren't as memorable as the ones in the original and don't have as good chemistry as a whole as the others did. Chris Pratt isn't bad but he doesn't carry the same kind of cool factor that someone like McQueen did. Garcia is easily the most forgettable character of all of the "Seven" movies and it's lame he survived. D'Nofrio is kind of bizarre and I wish they would've made Hawke more darker instead of a con man liar. The villian is one of the weakest parts and is just ok and super forgettable. He isn't even close to Eli Wallach's performance. As well done as everything is here, nothing is really better than how the 1960 one did it and doesn't really add anything. Save for the indian member who was awesome and the coolest member. That's probably the best thing this added. The action also can feel a bit over the top too and the more quiet scenes don't stick out as much as the rest of the film does. It hits for the most part the same beats the original did on a bigger picture with no real radical changes. Which begs the question why this was made. They should've done what they did with the original which was effectively a remake of the Seven Samurai. Take the idea and put it in a new setting with new characters told in a new way. anyone who is a fan of the director, any actors in this, or modern westerns should give this a try. I guess anyone who hasn't seen the original would like this and honestly I thin most people would. But it's not really better than either of its predecessors.

I grew up with the original. This one had its moments.
