The November Man Reviews
Somewhat generic thriller buoyed by Brosnan's badass Bondness.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Feb 1, 2021
Immediately establishes tenseness and awe, through hardy wisecracks, brief character development, and nerve-wracking action.
| Original Score: 6/10 | Dec 4, 2020
Though it starts off as a decently fun throwback to a kind of movie that doesn't get made much anymore, nostalgia only carries the film so far.
| Original Score: C | Jul 7, 2020
Director Roger Donaldson, reteaming with his 'Dante's Peak' star, [Pierce] Brosnan, excels at the interplay of espionage and red herrings, keeping us on our toes with plot points and twists and turns while dazzling with some well-timed action sequences.
| Dec 14, 2019
Like a semi-talented juggler that takes on one ball too many, Donaldson's film of furiously committed and concurrent clusters end up smashing into each other to concoct a rather silly and sallow end product.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Sep 5, 2019
It's rather hard to remember the Man of November: budget-Bourne action, stale plot.
| Original Score: 2/5 | May 30, 2019
The November Man is diverting and Brosnan's fans should be pleased; it just isn't the kind of engrossing, thoughtful drama that its elements suggest it intends to be.
| Original Score: B- | Jan 11, 2019
By the half-way point in the film, the outcome already is determined, but you still have to remain in your seat, painfully watching as the characters catch up to what you already know.
| Original Score: 1/4 | Aug 21, 2018
You'll have seen The November Man's espionage shenanigans done much better elsewhere, but Brosnan proves his spry spy veteran has still got what it takes while veteran director Roger Donaldson keeps the action nimble.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Mar 10, 2018
The sometimes-cluttered plot aside, this slickly-shot film manages to pass muster. A big reason why you might want to see this film is because Pierce Brosnan is in it. And indeed, it is on his able shoulders that this movie rests.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Nov 14, 2017
[The film] very deliberately trades on whatever nostalgia moviegoers might have left for Pierce Brosnan as a secret agent, and ticket-buyers' mileage will vary accordingly.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Apr 15, 2016
A few brain cells short and a handful of years too late.
| Original Score: C | Mar 20, 2016
The only purpose for its existence is potentially giving film students an interesting study in overcompensation.
| Original Score: D- | Sep 2, 2015
A poor, poor script can zap the charisma out of any actor. Just look at what The November Man did to Pierce Brosnan.
| Original Score: 3/10 | Jul 20, 2015
Directed with old-school grit and clarity.
| Original Score: B+ | Jul 14, 2015
A throwback-y, meat and potatoes potboiler that manages to get the job done with a minimum of fuss. The nastiness is bracing.
| Jun 9, 2015
Promising start, but by the midway point the film devolves to a generic action film with themes you've seen countless times already.
| Original Score: 5/10 | May 14, 2015
A welcome throwback spy thriller that is as old-fashioned as it is derivative, but gives Brosnan's fans a taste of the former 007 agent.
| Original Score: B | Dec 10, 2014
The November Man is a second-rate espionage thriller that desperately wants to be in the same tier as Jason Bourne and Jack Ryan, but thanks to dull characters and an unengaging plot, it merely ends up being a flat and forgettable spy outing.
| Original Score: 2.5/5 | Nov 24, 2014
It all looks terribly old-fashioned and a little old-hat.
