The Outfit Reviews
An outstanding subtle performance by Mark Rylance. A single scene film that feels like a stage adaption but it carries it off.
I watched this movie about 2 years ago. It is so well done, that it still enters my thoughts frequently. Especially the performance from Mark Rylance. He hits all the marks. The perfect timing and direction all add up to a very memorable film full of twists and tension. I was wrongly convinced at first that this must have originally been a stage play. I hope one day someone produces it for the stage...it would be a sure fire hit!
bad script. For everything that happens in the film to happen, all the teams in the galaxy would have to align... Cheap film, little scenery
A number of twists and turns Mark Rylance's performances is incredible!
Entirely not a good movie
Absolutely loved this movie!!
OK good plot. not memorable
Excellent...English, what do you expect
Great single set drama with great acting and smart dialogue. It’s filled with wonderful nuance and clever interplay among the cast. Some people are complaining that the mobsters are too dumb. Yes, it trims out criminals are pretty dumb. I’d love to see this turned into a play for me to see at my local playhouse.
There's little action in this movie but the plot and the acting are the reasons to watch it. Pure tense drama is how I would describe it. Excellent movie.
No solo es espectacular y tremendamente sólida sino también muy satisfactoria, una virtud algo olvidada últimamente.
This film encourages you to pay attention due to a tightly woven plot. Mark Rylance's performance is outstanding, with the entire cast also excellent. Despite not being an action genre, there are spots of intense violence. Do not read the plot b4 watching, or you will miss most of the thrills.
The intention of the movie was an old fashioned noir gangster film I imagine but it turned out to be a parody as far as I’m concerned. Marc Rylance is always top of his craft but the twists and turns were ridiculous and unbelievable. It was pretty funny.
Great acting and cinematography with a bit of silly moves in scripts that influence the story.
Excellent movie...a slow burner that has you guessing at every turn...haven't seen a movie made like this in a very long time.
The Outfit is a fine drama thriller with interesting premise, clever execution, and likeable characters. The movie shows that story is driven by character and situation, rather than just mindnumbing action and high concept. We start the movie with a voice over from our protag, Leonard, about what mastery of his craft means. This scene sets the tone of this movie: a clever plot intricately throwing curveball after curveball until the climax. Leonard, our protag, is a cutter: someone specialized in making fine suits for what he calls his gentlemen. He is meticulous and always-observing, keeping his business to his own and never minding the others's. His customers, though, vary a lot, including mobsters. To each his own. One night, s**t hits the fan, staining Leonard to the point that he gets called family by mobsters. The rest of the story follows Leonard smartness to get out of such situation alive. Leonard is a great character, and kudos to Mark Rylance on the lead role. The cutter, as he calls himself, is the high-stereotype of an old-fashioned British gentleman from the 80s, where this story seems to take place. His cunningness is as sharp as a blade, and he seems to be in control of himself at all times. As a matter of fact, the acting here is pretty solid from all actors. And this is a strong point about this movie that overcomes its slowness. I don't mind slow movies, but be advised: the story takes place in one setting only, never leaving Leonard's tailor shop, and the action itself might feel absent. The story's strong premise lies in the masterfully crafted plot and the dialogue. A series of thrilling events and we fast forward to the climax with a final revelation that delivers a punch. Move past this breathtaking climax, and yet another revelation ends the story with a stunning blow. Satisfying, if you are searching for a good story, good drama and thrill, this movie delivers. It's not flawless, though. The ending revelation might come unexpected and too unexplored for its own sake. Potential left aside, the revelation could open doors, but also leaves us guessing Leonard's integrity. The Outfit entertains to what it's set out to be. A good drama thriller with clever plot that shows that carefully crafted characters and some twists add to a prestine story.
The script is just hopeless, all those who seem to love this film must be all about the appealing scenery. I can't bare the lack of logic in the plots. Had enough after 20 minutes.
Tight story. Great acting. This is a good watch
Boring and predictable. The moment you see the main character being mildly intelligent and everyone else completely moronic...you know you have a lazy, unintelligent, cheap script.
