Timeline Reviews

…utter gibberish…feels like a time-capsule from the past when $90 million could be spent realising an overtly terrible load of old cobblers like this…

| Original Score: 2/5 | Aug 4, 2024

The passage of time has given this daft and badly-acted sci-fi caper a certain eye-popping charm - bolstered by, if not solely due to, a soaking wet Gerard Butler spinning French aristocrat Anna Friel round in a coracle.

| Original Score: 3/5 | Aug 1, 2021

This feels like a film worthy of re-appraisal. It is not some hidden gem or classic, but it is a solidly made and effective science fiction thriller with a good cast and a well-paced three-act story.

| Original Score: 7/10 | Apr 29, 2021

Timeline is a dreadful movie. It's a hybrid of science fiction and medieval war film that was made for $80 million, but it looks cheap and it feels small.

| Jul 26, 2018

a great example of a woulda-coulda-shoulda movie

| Original Score: 2.5/5 | Jan 12, 2016

Weakly entertaining Middle Ages fantasy.

| Original Score: 2/5 | Dec 29, 2010

A competent cast keeps this eccentric time travel movie (based on a Michael Crichton novel) amusing if far from successful.

| Original Score: C- | May 10, 2009

Timeline takes the most ridiculous movie plot ever and multiplies it by ten.

| Nov 5, 2008

This big-budget adventure is based on a recent Michael Crichton thriller, though its premise is too stale to instill the sense of wonder critical to great sci-fi.

| Nov 5, 2008

In Michael Crichton's oeuvre, this is more The 13th Warrior than Westworld. Silly larks for young boys with liberal parents.

| Original Score: 2.5/5 | Nov 5, 2008

...one of the least effective Crichton adaptations to date.

| Original Score: 2/4 | Oct 31, 2008

Yet another case of making time travel a messy ordeal rather than a load of fun, Timeline lacks the consistent tone, pace and point of view for either a science fiction thriller or medieval war adventure.

Full Review | Oct 18, 2008

It's all a bit too near fetched to be a great movie, it's still fun.

| Oct 18, 2008

If only I could go back in time to convince myself not to watch this ludicrous time travel yarn which 'faxes' a group of uninteresting characters back to the 1300s to screw up the space-time continuum.

| Original Score: 1/4 | Dec 27, 2007

It is just bland and easily forgettable.

| Original Score: 2/4 | Nov 8, 2007

It comes up short in both plot and quality.

| Original Score: 2.5/5 | Jul 5, 2005

At two hours and even with the rushed feel it still feels overly long and worst of all -- cheap.

| Original Score: 1.5/5 | Mar 14, 2005

| Original Score: 0/5 | Jan 15, 2005

Jeff Maguire, in adapting Crichton's novel, clearly had trouble explaining all the nuances of the story with the constraints of a Hollywood time limit.

Full Review | Original Score: 2/4 | Sep 20, 2004

With the exception of the original "Jurassic Park", films based on Crichton's novels have been not only unsuccessful but horrendously awful.
