Timeline Reviews
Timeline turned out to be way more enjoyable than I expected. It doesn’t dig too deep into the whole time travel logic, which might leave sci-fi fans a little underwhelmed, but it leans into the historical adventure side of things in a way that works. The pacing keeps things moving without getting bogged down, and while the directing doesn’t bring anything groundbreaking, it keeps the story tight and the action easy to follow. The cinematography isn’t particularly standout, but there are some cool wide shots and atmospheric moments that help set the tone. The acting is solid all around. Paul Walker has that likable, grounded vibe, and Gerard Butler brings some intensity to the screen. The cast actually makes the movie better than it probably would’ve been otherwise. The script plays it pretty safe and falls into some familiar patterns, but it still manages to be fun. As for the score, it fits the vibe without being too memorable. Overall, Timeline isn’t the smartest or deepest movie, but it’s a good time if you’re in the mood for a fast-paced historical adventure with a sci-fi twist.
My criteria for rating a movie is quite simple. Was I reasonably entertained for the duration and would I consider watching the movie again at some future time. For Timeline, when I first watched it years ago, I was entertained and have watched it a couple of time over the years. So, for my 2 cents, Timeline gets 4 stars!
Really enjoyed the book. Really hated the movie. It’s bad to the lengths of Caddyshack II. I’ve seen better high school plays. It’s amazing how screenwriters and a director with such pedigree can produce such a bad movie. And this movie could have been soooo good. There was great material in the book that got completely eliminated or changed beyond recognition. “Timeline” is like Python’s Holy Grail, if you edited all the jokes out. “Timeline” should’ve used coconuts instead of real horses to leave us with something worth watching.
An absolute imaginative film from the late great Richard Donner about modern people travel back in time during the 100 years war.
Beyond the bad acting and filming in low light, the plot is not the one from the book. I looked up this film expecting it to at least follow the general plot in the book, but it did not. The plot which the movie took is not engaging and painful to watch.
I don't understand the negative reviews. This was an exciting time travel story from start to finish. A great riveting story, none of which seemed convoluted at all to me, despite what critics said.
Critics must really hate life, and I guess everyone's a critic based on the audience score. This movie is a ton of fun, just enjoy it.
The plot is fine but the acting is a bit off and not that good. In some scenes, I couldn't even bear it. So, I'd say this film was not that good as I've expected.
Timeline is what I would call a "Have to" film. To enjoy Timeline you have to be a fan of paul walker, Richard donner or just fun bad movies. Walker isn't great but does add some boyhood charm and good emotion to a relatively simple character. Gerard butler was a standout supporting character and had a interesting storyline. And walkers father in the film was good as well. The rest of the cast was ehh. The set design could have been better but was suitable. I really liked the small storylines and relationships that are reviled and grow over the course of the film. The action was decent and provided enough to be entertained. The ending was surprisingly good and answered the necessary questions. If your looking for a blockbuster video blast from the past. Look no longer. 6.6/10
This was an AMAZING movie, brilliantly directed with fine detail to make you feel like you were there!!!!!
I don't agree with all the negative reviews about this movie. It is based on Michael Crichton's science fiction novel of the same title. Brilliant time travel story with a brilliant twist. True, this wasn't Paul Walker's finest movie but him aside, everyone put in their best performance. I read the book and then watched the movie and I thoroughly enjoyed both!
Butler and Walker captivate in this sometimes poorly written but well executed sci-fi drama. Compared to the current day trash that comes out I feel like this would be scored differently had it come out now.
For the history and archeologist fan this is a must see . The way digging back into the past is and was done even then. . The group of friends travel back in time to find team leader and father of Chris. Billy Connally. . Also while being aware of not changing history but this goes totally wrong from the moment from the second they medieval England and one of the team falls in love with the king of France daughter lady Claire who in history was killed so if yr a romantic as well this is another reason . to enter Castle guard England April 4th 1357. . Time traveling back there is also interesting what if today we could do this and where should we .go
Despite the harsh criticism, this movie does have its moments. While it may not be a great SciFi movie or a great medieval adventure movie, it can entertain you for 2 hours if you allow it.
It's a fairly fun adventure movie, but overall it's only passable. Which is really unfortunate, as this has a fantastic cast and a different, really cool gimmick for the time travel. Could've been truly great, but doesn't quite get there.
entertaining enough, but never does anything new.
A wormhole is accidently initiated and sends a group of people 600 years into the past for a great battle. Well done.
Loved the book, and was looking forward to this movie. The script afforded great potential, not unlike Jurassic Park or other books by the author. Unfortunately it did not happen ... acting was ridiculous, and they just did not treat the project with any degree of seriousness. Pity ... loved the sci-fi and mediaeval premise.
Timeline tries to be different than your average time-travel movie by having a darker tone that's mainly because of the time period everyone travels back to and also starring a talented cast and Richard Donner in the director's chair but the average cinematography, unimpressive battle sequences and incoherent plot end up leaving a lot to be desired. It doesn't help that, despite Paul Walker earning top billing, he doesn't do much and it's a pre-300 Gerard Butler who gets the majority of character development. I didn't hate this movie but it really didn't look or feel very cinematic. Would've been better off as a miniseries.
