Troll Reviews

Mar 25, 2025

For some reason my old review was removed but I will restate I found the treatment of the troll horrendous. The guy was genuinely just waking up from a massive nap and they torture him from the get go, throwing his child’s skull at him partway through the movie. I found this to be a harrowing description of the human condition. It’s not like there’s any serious reason they couldn’t get down w the troll and show a little respect. I know it is just a movie and this is a silly review but this bothered me a bit.

The visuals are good, and the acting is fine, but the plot is forced and predictable (and without spoilers, I didn't like the ending). Had some fun watching it, but rarely for the reasons I think the movie intended.

A fun and interesting take on the troll, with a good cast, good special effeks, and a great story.

This movie is trash! The only reason I’m not giving it half a star is because I know it took a lot of effort and coordination to even make this piece of crap movie. I had to force myself to finish it, But I could’ve have walked away and not felt any remorse. I kept hoping it was gonna get better and start to make sense eventually, but it doesn’t and if you’re thinking about watching it, don’t.

This movie grasps at a lot of different themes around family, folklore and the environment and how the modern world must control these things or will eagerly destroy them. The movie is trying to teach us a lesson after a long slow buildup around these ideas but then throws it all away at the climax? Blind destruction of anything we don't understand or can't control is good? No consequences for 'bad' or 'evil' actions against the environment or our own cultures? Maybe it would have been better to just keep it a simple action monster movie and leave out the deeper stuff.

I feel TROLLED that I even watched this movie. The compositing looks like it was done in a Walmart restroom, and don't even get me started on the 2nd Unit Director. I honestly do not know if this is a live-action anime or a Lord of The Rings remake, but I can tell that it wasn't good.

Has a slower pacing from what you would expect from a Kaiju movie and feels cheesy (not in a good way) many times, but the acting, script and the monster itself alongside all it's scenes are very fine.

A movie with absolutely zero depth that's almost not offensive. I mean, if you want to have something running in the background, this movie is for you. If you wanna see literally anything surprising, something, you haven't seen before, this movie is totally not for you. It doesn't tell a story, it doesn't teach you anything, it kinda just exist. They even shoehorned muslims in, in a movie taking place in Sweden, in a situation where no one was asking for religion... But of course they'd do that. In the end though, they did make a movie and that takes at least a little effort, even if the script, the writing, the twist... are... very predictable to say the least. Don't spent money buying it, watch it for free on Netflix. Best.

Norwegian King Kong , except is a troll. Interesting take of this mythological creature, good special effects 🍿🍿🍿/5

Great special effects, but the acting is weak, the storyline clichéd, the characters one-dimensional and the plot full of holes. A palaeontologist goes in search of strange phenomena after a mining disaster, but she does scarcely a minute's worth of analysis before arriving at a conclusion - skepticism. An elderly eccentric (conveniently the scientist's dad) knows the answer. However, his outspokenness previously saw him dismissed as 'loony', so no one believes him. Once the eccentric's suspicions come to fruition, the scientist downplays the evidence, but then bureaucrats stifle the investigation and instead the military are engaged. Thereafter the clichés keep rolling in like a production line...

As a big fan of Edvard Grieg I was hoping to see in the credits some indication of his famous work Hall of the Mountain King to no avail, so can't give this show five stars. Some visuals quite stunning other aspects somewhat missed point

It was an entertaining movie, way better than watching the Acolyte.

Mikey’s Movie Review: Troll (2022) This Norwegian language creature feature might not set the world on fire, but it could turn a few heads in Hollywood… Directed by Roar Uthaug (Tomb Raider) with tongue firmly in cheek but plenty of style and gorgeous cinematography, it delivers exactly what you’d expect from a movie about a giant Troll rampaging towards Oslo. Clichéd as hell, it borrows heavily from Godzilla, King Kong, Jurassic Park et al, and adds a sprinkle of Roland Emmerich’s disaster schtick dialogue for good measure. Although it never takes itself too seriously, it does have a little heart thanks to some great interplay between the leads. Every character is a one-dimensional caricature but Ine Marie Wilmann is an engaging presence, and her scenes with Gard B. Eidsvold (an estranged daughter/father dynamic) are a joy. US casting agents should take note! For such a low budget movie the VFX are stunning. Certainly as impressive as anything Marvel have put out the last few years. If you’ve a soft spot for this genre you should definately check it out. It won’t change your life, but you might find yourself 100 minutes of guilty pleasure… Mikey’s Movie Rating: 3/5*

Cool idea and decent special effects. But the writing is so bad. The acting is bad. The dialog is bad. I said to my wife, “This would be really stupid if it wasn’t in Norwegian.” Good idea, bad execution.

Not half-bad for a Norwegian monster-movie!!

Damn Troll hunters be looking different lately

Troll was pretty cool. It's exactly what you expect it to be. Not going to blow your socks off or surprise you much but it was a decent throw on before you pass out type movie for those who do that.

This is King Kong. Its Norwegian King Kong made of rocks. And that's certainly not a bad thing. The characters are fun, and the effects are amazing for what I assume is a smaller budget. The titular creature, like Kong, is sympathetic and whose violence and destruction are a byproduct of its curiosity and will to just be left alone. I didn't feel good with how they treated this man!
