Trollhunter Reviews
Øvredal’s frame, for the most part, resists typical “found footage” unintelligibility and captures some truly arresting scenery from the director’s homeland, all with some minor commentary about preserving our natural wildlife treasures.

One of the better entries in the “found footage” series of faux documentaries.

I know that people are against found footage films but this one, just you can't fault it really, I mean other than having trolls which is kind of silly... It did everything right.
| Original Score: 8/10 | Jun 2, 2021
Its main goal is clearly fun and it succeeds phenomenally.

It tries to be comedy; tries to be horror; staggers back and forth a little and then, getting into the swing of it, settles for just roaring a lot and knocking things over.

Troll Hunter had all the potential to be an entertaining, darkly funny and importantly unique entry into the 'found footage' sub genre. Instead, Øvredal has succeeded in producing a hugely disappointing, tired and clichéd also-ran.
| Original Score: 2/5 | May 24, 2019
Overall, Trollhunter isn't the most fast-paced or sweat-inducing of the recent pack of naturalistic low-budget horror films. However, it is perhaps the drollest, driest and most effects-laden of the bunch.

The Blair Witch Project followed some scared students into the woods. Trollhunter brings all sorts of professions in on the project, showing what can happen when fairy tales come true.

Øvredal might not have succeeded in making a great film, but his ambition has to be respected. His use of the Norwegian landscape, particular in the final snow drift showdown were nothing short of awesome.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Nov 27, 2018
You won't be able to resist its satiric blend of government conspiracy and old Norse mythology.

What do you get when you combine Cloverfield with Nordic Trolls? This very funny monster mockumentary.
| Original Score: 8/10 | Feb 6, 2018
A leisurely, shambling, deadpan movie about a man who finds trolls and kills them. That's enough.
| Original Score: B | Jun 23, 2013
Trollhunter adopts the form of a found footage documentary, which translates as lots of banal conversations, abundant shots of the Scandinavian countryside, and competent but shaky handheld camerawork.

TrollHunter is both creepy and funny, a clever combination for this sly monster movie.

... this one is well worth the troll hunt to find.
| Original Score: 4.0/4.0 | Jan 22, 2012
The trolls here all are the spitting image of Muppets with a hyperthyroid problem. In fact, imagine a Sweetums doll after three wash cycles.

The film is shot with handheld cameras in the standard mockumentary style, but the content is often hilarious, especially when the trolls show up.

This found-film sci-fi trolls-on-the-loose story works well enough as a kind of tongue-in-cheek comedy spoofing films of this kind and the sheer idiocy behind these kinds of conspiracy theories.

It never seemed more than a student film.
