The previews did zero for me and I was not planning on watching it. We were planning to go another show and we couldnt make the time. We ended up watching this movie. Literally one of the best movies Ive ever seen. The movie really pulls you in and you can absolutely see the change of character that he makes. During the movie. Over the top awesome. Again one of the best movies Ive ever seen.

Different type of story, funny and realistic.

I liked it a lot. It is billed as a comedy/mystery so I expected more comedy. It started with a look at the dating scene in NYC, but ended as a commentary on a small town with a big opioid problem and the associated characters involved. I thought it was well done. All of the actors were really spot on and a surprising conclusion! Go, you’ll like it!

Super great and thought provoking movie

A hilarious dark comedy with philosophical undertones. Characters are well cast as a Texas dysfunctional family who welcomes a New York boyfriend. My husband I both loved this film.

Smart commentary on our culture

We loved it! It kept you on your toes and was so very funny. No gratuitous sex or language or over the top caricatures. It felt like very real characters, I have lived in NY and TX so it may mean a little more to me.

BJ Novak is hilarious! This movie keeps you laughing and keeps you in suspense the entire time! Super witty and thought provoking. Definitely a must see.

Not enough dark humor

Hard for a non-verbal person to try to represent the great experience this movie took us through, from the quiet start in NYC, to the final moments in Texas. Unexpected. Great story flow. Deep yet engaging. Well directed, acted, filmed with such an interesting script and characters. Loved every person who appeared in their own sphere of personality. My partner and I want to read the book (there is no book yet!) And several of the lines we would like to hear again. Hoping for the public's sake that word of mouth brings a large audience.

Great story line and acting!

I thought it would be a make-fun-of-Texas movie, but it wasnt. It was surprisingly funny, thoughtful, and deep. I loved it.

Not the movie you might expect from BJ Novak, but one of the better movies I have seen in a long time. Not heavy handed, but says a lot about societies ills. Wrapped around a good murder mystery.

Glad they didnt make the Texans the Hollywood Liberal way they think Texans are. Good directing debut with a solid enough premise thats funny and what turned out to be heartfelt. In a time with deep divisions between people who feel they are red or blue, politically wise, its good to have a movie like this where people are lumped as dumb or smart just because of where they come from. Enjoyable but the ending couldve used more work.

Slow building, surprisingly brilliant story of rural folk knowing they need an outsider's help to change the way things are.... regretful and tragic becomes vindicated with Texas justice making it alright.
