Villains Reviews
The themes and overall approach to the story is better executed here by Berk and Olsen, and will make for a highly enjoyable discovery for audiences later this year...

Villains keeps the viewer invested in the moment-to-moment tension, but it never quite delivers the laughs or pushes our limits beyond acceptable norms.

Each key player manages to deliver a zany and humourous performance and the script is chock full of quotable lines of dialogue. This has all the hallmarks of becoming a well-loved cult classic.

Villains is a wicked good time with a few creepy twists and turns throughout.

We get four complex, fleshed out personalities, with four fantastic, very different performances that nail each. Full of sneaky twists, it's not what it initially appears; while it feels light and bubbly at times, it also gets dark and bleak and sweet.

The runaway stars here are Sedgwick and Donovan, who chew scenery, spit out big pieces, and encourage us to feed them more. Their demented parody of domestic bliss is reason enough to see Villains.

A stylish and savage battle of the bad guys.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Oct 4, 2019
Villains has enough of its own offbeat energy not to come off as just another collection of young filmmakers' influences.

A fairly funny black comedy.

Offers four strong performances, but not much else.

"Villains" is a fun movie, but it's not a great one. Their next one might be.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Sep 26, 2019
Although it's controlled carnage, Villains is consistently, and delightfully, surprising. The cast is clearly having a ball and nobody leaves unscathed. A total blast.
| Original Score: 8/10 | Sep 24, 2019
Although it doesn't quite realize the potential insanity that is frequently hinted at, Villains is still a bizarre and refreshing outing to the movies that will leave you satisfied if you're looking for a break from summer blockbusters.

I enjoyed the humor derived from the unfailing ineptitude of all four villains, and as they met their fates, one by one, I was sort of sorry to see them go.
| Original Score: 3/4 | Sep 23, 2019
The home invasion dark comedy is wildly entertaining with first-rate performances especially Jeffrey Donovan who steals the show.
| Original Score: 3.5/4 | Sep 22, 2019
...if you allow it to be, Villains can be a lot of fun.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Sep 22, 2019
Quirks and gimmicks overwhelm narrative substance in this home-invasion thriller that's neither funny nor frightening enough to stand out.
| Sep 21, 2019
Yes, there have been cleverer movies, but this creepy comedy more than gets by on its breezy pace and weirdly lovable characters, as well as smart, measured performances that keep them in check.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Sep 21, 2019
It knows how have that balance between having a sense of humor, but also having you on the edge of your seat.

Want to know what "Pennywise" looks like under the "It" clown makeup, here's your chance. Plus Jeffrey Donovan and Kyra Sedgwick chew up the scenery in their emoting and that is fun.
