X-Men Origins: Wolverine Reviews
It’s hard to really feel any strong emotions toward this film besides apathy, to be honest.

It’s violent and cruel and shrouded in darkness, filled with the complicated backstories and the weirdly incestuous origin details from the comic books that [are] confusing and confounding and no substitute for a story.

Even when the hand-to-hand combat looks impressive, the stunts get far-fetched, pushing the special effects to the limit.

Emphatically overblown. Slightly underwhelming. Intermittently exciting. Consistently confusing.

The only truly solid performance comes from Liev Schreiber.

Toothy, energetic and wild, X-Men Origins: Wolverine may not live up to high fan expectations, but it's entertaining enough to tempt new viewers to the franchise.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Oct 31, 2019
There's plenty of brawn and brute force to go around of course, but it lacks the heart and soul that distinguished the franchise.

Revenge soon grips Logan when his love is taken away, but Tsotsi director Gavin Hood seems bored by the sibling rivalry; even the Frankensteinian weaponizing of a human body feels rushed.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Nov 6, 2018
Wolverine is as visually enticing as films get, but it still feels soulless. Just like in the funny books, pyrotechnics is no substitute for a well-told yarn.
| Original Score: 1.5/4 | Nov 6, 2018
Wolverine starts with a roar before sliding into a chaotic, preachy mess.
| Nov 6, 2018
This one is dull, lifeless, and maddeningly transparent.
| Original Score: 3/10 | Nov 2, 2018
It's nearly joyless in its badness - unlike some Z-movies that revel in their badness, Wolverine thinks it's a great film.

There's little here to get the pulse racing. For a summer blockbuster, that's disappointing. For a Wolverine film, that's pretty hard to forgive.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Sep 8, 2017
No matter how well-staged, the action doesn't make much sense, and the story is a tedious muddle.

So much for a clean slate.

Straight off the bat: this movie features more shots of muscle-bound men looking up at the camera and yelling "RAAWWWRGH!" than any other I can remember. It's the shoutiest film of the year.

I haven't been this disappointed by a film since the new Indiana Jones.
