Biography:

I'm a Seattle city girl trying to make it as a film critic and freelance entertainment journalist in the wilds of Washington State. When I'm not watching (and writing about) movies, I also read (constantly), eat out (mmmmm - mexican food), shop (you can never have enough shoes), hang out with friends, play softball & basketball, watch the SuperSonics avidly (even if they do, at the moment, stink) and have far too unhealthy a fascination with Kelly Clarkson.

Favorites:

I hate this question. There are far too many to list.

Sinners (2025) 98% 4/4 “There is a scene smack dab in the middle of Sinners where I felt my soul elevate to a new plane of existence.” – MovieFreak.com Apr 20, 2025 Full Review The Ballad of Wallis Island (2025) 97% 3.5/4 “Love can be found and lasting connections can be made even in a world drowning in chaos and indecision. This is the song that The Ballad of Wallis Island triumphantly sings. It’s one worth playing on repeat.” – MovieFreak.com Apr 20, 2025 Full Review Drop (2025) 84% 3/4 “Landon shows a playfully nimble majesty where it comes to balancing suspense, horror, humor, and general human pathos.” – MovieFreak.com Apr 20, 2025 Full Review The Amateur (2025) 61% 2/4 “The most annoying thing about The Amateur is how competent it is.” – MovieFreak.com Apr 20, 2025 Full Review Millers in Marriage (2024) 56% 2/4 “The whole thing is a well-acted descent into the depressively mundane, and 117 minutes of one banal struggle after another was not my cup of tea.” – MovieFreak.com Apr 7, 2025 Full Review A Working Man (2025) 49% 1.5/4 “A Working Man is a sleazy waste of time.” – MovieFreak.com Mar 31, 2025 Full Review Disney's Snow White (2025) 40% 2.5/4 “Though far from a dream come true, this Snow White isn’t without its enjoyable aspects. I watched it with a smile and a song, every bluddle-uddle-um-dum somehow injecting my heart with joy, often when I least expected.” – MovieFreak.com Mar 24, 2025 Full Review Black Bag (2025) 96% 4/4 “The mystery builds to a wildly perverse yet suitably sincere conclusion that knocked my socks off. However, to say more than that would spoil all of the fun.” – MovieFreak.com Mar 15, 2025 Full Review High Rollers (2025) 1.5/4 “This film is a waste of time.” – MovieFreak.com Mar 15, 2025 Full Review Mickey 17 (2025) 77% 4/4 “Mickey 17 may not end up being the year’s best film, but it will undoubtedly become one of its most essential.” – MovieFreak.com Mar 11, 2025 Full Review Last Breath (2025) 80% 2/4 “I was disappointed by this iteration of Last Breath. Chris has an incredible story. The same goes for all of those who were involved with his rescue. But I didn’t care. Not about Chris. Not about his shipmates. Not about any of it. Talk about a tragedy.” – MovieFreak.com Mar 3, 2025 Full Review Paddington in Peru (2024) 93% 3/4 “It’s this unembellished emotional simplicity that makes the continued tales of Paddington so wonderful. It is also what makes them essential.” – MovieFreak.com Feb 21, 2025 Full Review Cleaner (2025) 50% 2.5/4 “Cleaner understands the retro action-thriller assignment, and that’s what ultimately matters the most.” – MovieFreak.com Feb 21, 2025 Full Review Captain America: Brave New World (2025) 48% 2.5/4 “It’s a toothless attempt at topicality. Because of that, there’s little that feels very brave and even less that struck me as new.” – MovieFreak.com Feb 17, 2025 Full Review Heart Eyes (2025) 81% 3.5/4 “Heart Eyes tickled my funny bone, triggered my gag reflex, and caused the hairs on my arms to stand on end. As far as I’m concerned, Valentine’s Day entertainment doesn’t get any better than that.” – MovieFreak.com Feb 7, 2025 Full Review Love Hurts (2025) 19% 1.5/4 “It’s bad, but bad in a way only a project with so much glorious possibility could be, and that only makes things worse.” – MovieFreak.com Feb 7, 2025 Full Review Companion (2025) 94% 3/4 “There’s nothing robotic about Companion.” – MovieFreak.com Feb 4, 2025 Full Review Wolf Man (2025) 50% 3/4 “Owing more to Native American mythologies involving human-to-animal shapeshifting than to either Lon Chaney Jr., Curt Siodmak, or even John Landis, at its core this is a tragic family saga that cuts deep and leaves a lasting scar.” – MovieFreak.com Jan 17, 2025 Full Review The Prosecutor (2024) 93% 3/4 “Yen remains as magnetic as ever, and whether punching bad guys in the face or shouting down naysayers in a courtroom, there was never a moment I didn’t believe that the emotionally pugnacious conviction driving his performance was genuine.” – MovieFreak.com Jan 17, 2025 Full Review Lady Like (2024) 3/4 “But there is an unavoidable warmth and tenderness to the documentary that I happily responded to. Rex is a dynamic performer, and it’s easy to see (especially as someone who rather despises Drag Race) why he became a popular fan-favorite” – MovieFreak.com Jan 17, 2025 Full Review Babygirl (2024) 76% 3/4 “Kidman is the big deal here, and it is the frisky, introspective elasticity of her performance that sent me out of the theater on a feverish high. ” – Seattle Times Jan 7, 2025 Full Review The Count of Monte Cristo (2024) 96% 4/4 “I walked away from de La Patellière and Delaporte’s take on the Dumas tale invigorated. Its intensity, its majesty, its larger-than-life virtuosity, all of that and more filled my heart with glee.” – MovieFreak.com Jan 3, 2025 Full Review Night of the Comet (1984) 79% “For all this film’s Valley girl aesthetics, being reminded of what could happen if we don’t listen to science but do take one another for granted seems fairly essential. Bitchin’, isn’t it?” – MovieFreak.com Dec 25, 2024 Full Review Nosferatu (2024) 84% 2/4 “Nosferatu left me feeling empty. It kept me at a frustrating distance, and even its tragic denouement of selfless sacrifice hit me as more perfunctory and preordained than authentically intimate.” – MovieFreak.com Dec 25, 2024 Full Review Mufasa: The Lion King (2024) 56% 2.5/4 “Jenkins isn’t afraid to allow his animals to take on a few human qualities. He sacrifices perfection to achieve emotional expression. The filmmaker tackles this prequel as if it were an animated film and, even better, Disney allows him that freedom.” – MovieFreak.com Dec 21, 2024 Full Review
