Peter Pan Reviews

Hogan has managed to remain faithful to Barrie's Edwardian spirit without making him feel musty.

Clearly a star in the making, Hurd-Wood demonstrates a maturity far beyond her 13 years, especially in the easy way she adopts the role of surrogate mother to The Lost Boys once in Never-Never Land.

| Jan 11, 2018

It won't give Harry Potter a run for his money, but it beats the hell out of a Cannon & Ball panto in Skegness.

| Original Score: 3/5 | May 27, 2011

Live-action version keeps its thrill and charm.

| Original Score: 4/5 | Dec 27, 2010

These ingredients are digitally present and correct, but Hogan fails to inject much excitement into the many boisterous action sequences.

Most kids will be bored for much of the time, and are unlikely to be attracted by the juvenile performers.

So what need is there, then, for director P.J. Hogan's latest live-action incarnation of Barrie's tale? Not much, really, but I'm sure glad that didn't stop him from making it.

| Original Score: 3/4 | Jan 10, 2004

There's really no way this film should have received a kid-friendly PG rating.

| Original Score: 2.5/5 | Dec 30, 2003

A dazzling retelling of the J.M. Barrie tale.

| Original Score: 3/4 | Dec 26, 2003

With only a few exceptions, the performances (and the script) range between dull and mediocre.

In this incarnation, Peter is imbued with a greater degree of psychological darkness than before.

Full Review | Dec 25, 2003

Familiarity doesn't exactly breed contempt, yet despite the novelty of a real boy as Peter, the movie does engender a listless been-there / eaten-that reaction.

| Original Score: 2.5/4 | Dec 25, 2003

A tribute to the power of good storytelling.

| Original Score: 3/5 | Dec 25, 2003

Little children may find it a bit scary ... but it's a warmhearted and often magical adventure.

If, as you go into the theater, you hear people coming out still chanting 'I do believe in fairies. I do! I do!' do not be alarmed. Soon you will be joining them.

Hogan's shimmering vision of Peter Pan is rewardingly sumptuous and faithful.

Full Review | Original Score: 2.5/4 | Dec 25, 2003

What distinguishes this Peter Pan from other versions is its unsentimental insight into the terrors and delights of both childhood and growing up.

Full Review | Original Score: 4/5 | Dec 25, 2003

Sumptuous-looking and engagingly acted.

Full Review | Original Score: 2.5/4 | Dec 25, 2003

Both enchantingly old-fashioned and daringly modern.

Full Review | Original Score: 3/4 | Dec 25, 2003

Action-fortified, touching and entertaining from its beguiling beginning to its dreamy conclusion.
