3:10 to Yuma Reviews
The filmmakers take a huge chance by altering the original’s final scene and it doesn’t quite work but neither is it a sellout. Even those who’ve never seen the first will find glaring contradictions yet no one will be able to discount its searing impact.

It’s a brutal film about brutal people on the frontier, where even the “good guys” are often thugs in it for the money ...

Thanks to James Mangold, Christian Bale, Russell Crowe, and the rest of the cast and crew, 3:10 to Yuma is an epic Western in its own right.

'We're going to Contention.' One of the best remakes in the last twenty years.
| Original Score: 90/100 | Aug 22, 2021
The basic plot - Old West environment or not - is an amusing choice to reintroduce to audiences, since most viewers will be unfamiliar with the 1957 adaptation.

2007 may very well be the year when the Western comes riding back into town.

3:10 to Yuma is not only exciting, well-acted, and engaging, but it also reveals a deep sense of spirituality; of right and wrong.

With its great acting, great pacing, and crackerjack storyline, Yuma is not only fun, it is surprisingly moral.

Both dull and deeply unnecessary; a stinker.

3:10 to Yuma, director James Mangold's new duster features the toothsome duo, plus a bevy of time-tested conventions -- a white hat, a black hat, a good little woman, couple of towheaded kids, and a few unlikely twists to boot. Oh, yes, it has boots, too.

3:10 to Yuma isn't a necessary film. But it sure is tasty.
| Aug 22, 2017
Elevated above the usual fare by an engaging and complex relationship between its two stars, 3:10 To Yuma would be a thoroughly entertaining two hours whatever the genre - the Western setting is almost a bonus.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Nov 3, 2012
The real thrill of the film lies in watching these two men, sat on various sides of the moral fence, gradually converge and respect each other.
| Original Score: 5/5 | Jul 14, 2011
3:10 to Yuma is as heavy on character as it sounds like it should be ... and still a rip-roaring adventure around it; until it all gets away from director James Mangold in a crashing heap of unlikely motivation and flawed decisions.
| Original Score: 6/10 | Mar 3, 2011
Director James Mangold amps up the blood and thunder without sacrificing the moral complexity of Elmore Leonard's original short story.
| Aug 11, 2010
Bale and Crowe are superlative, but Mangold's rote, banal expansion never quickens the pulse.
| Original Score: 2.5/4 | Jul 6, 2010
It is part of the richness of 3.10 to Yuma that this is a classical piece of storytelling with themes and characters that can be found in the very earliest Westerns.
