3:10 to Yuma Reviews

Best modern day western

3:10 to Yuma is a fantastic Western film and James Manigold is really turning into one my underrated directors. The film has an intense score, some absolutely smart cinematography especially towards the end which made me so impressed and overall some great acting. The sound for this film is unbelievable and feels like I have an IMAX theater inside my ears. The ending really is magnificent and has been questioning and second guessing while the credits role. 3:10 Yuma is definitely a Western I won't forget for a while. Can I also talk about Christian Bale who is truly a star and Russell Crowes on-screen chemistry, I can even comprehend how this is there first and only project together. Why after all my film years did I never know Christian Bale was English (well I knew he was English, but I assume he was one of them English and moved to USA early in birth) he sounds funny to me.

It's one of best remakes ever made. Furthermore it's one of only a handful where a legitimate arguement could be made and I would have to agree this is the better version which is one heck of an accomplishment. Really good cinematography and music score. The original has a better soundtrack I have to say but this does a great job and does it's own thing well. The direction is really good and the action scenes are really good. Very good acting also. I think one could argue Ford or Bale is better or Van Horn vs Crowe. But I'd have to say I'm split with Crowe and Ford respectively being better. The editing and pacing are excellent here. And where this truly shines is in the changes it makes to the overall story. where the first is a thriller of sorts. This one is much more of a western adventure, faster pacing, more fleshed out characters adding to the main duo, and some changes that I really thought were great twists. It felt like it was doing it's own thing. This really only resembles the 57' one 30% of the time it feels like. The added father/son relationship dynamics and the adventure aspects with other characters really is what puts this one on top. On paper this is a bad idea to try and touch this. But in reality this is lighting in a bottle. Everyone should give this a try once and even the 57' one too.

4.0 stars; This is a classic western. It is an improvement on the original. This is primarily due to the excellent performances from Russell Crowe and Christian Bale. One of my favorite Westerns.

I really enjoyed the way the characters of outlaw Ben Wade (Russell Crowe) and rancher Dan Evans (Christian Bale) progressed through the movie. At first Wade was more ruthless than compassionate but by the end was very sympathetic and respectful of Evans. Conversely, Evans started out very meek and not respected by his son but through his experiences dealing with Wade, developed character and a toughness. This becomes most evident toward the end of the movie as Evans is successful battling the outlaws to get Wade onto the prison train. In the process, Dan Evans gains both the respect of his son and Ben Wade. The final scene of this movie was both gut wrenching and heartwarming. I think this is the best work both of these actors have ever done.

Great performances by the actors, albeit a bit over the top, great look and sound. But there are so many shoot-out scenes where people just blindly run into gun fire. It feels like a video game at times. I think if the action scenes were treated with bit more grounded reality, this woulda been an all time classic.

What struck me most about this film was its exploration of themes such as justice versus evil and the impact of traditional ways of life. It challenges viewers to consider what progress means and at what cost it comes. This film will hopefully influence people to be remember our actions in this life are legendary marks we are leaving beefing for our loved one’s. If you haven’t seen this movie yet I highly recommend it for your next movie night! It’s not just a Western; it’s an experience that stays will you long after viewing. The acting was top notch, and the story was very well told. The characters were engaging, and I didn't know who was going to do what next! I never saw the original, so I don't have anything to compare this to, but I really enjoyed it!

Me gustan mucho las películas de este género, un bandido y alguien que quiere hacer justicia. Lo que destaca a esta es que el hijo del bueno de la película es un niño valiente y que hace que en todo momento te mantengas pegado a la pantalla.

Christian Bale's dedication to doing the right thing was inspiring. Seeing his unyielding example to his son was particularly moving.

If you like westerns, you will like this one. A little over the top with the good guy/bad guy finding a connection, but overall it was a good movie.

Christian Bale and Russell crow are flawless together.

While I haven't seen the original, this remake stands on its own, thanks in large part to the exceptional chemistry between Christian Bale and Russell Crowe. Their performances anchor the film, with Bale’s portrayal of Dan Evans as a man struggling to uphold his values in a lawless world adding a refreshing vulnerability to the story. The film could have easily followed the predictable hero's journey, ending with Evans triumphantly blasting away all opposition. Instead, it takes a more nuanced approach, keeping his character grounded and focused on his principles. What ultimately matters most to Evans isn’t glory or a hero’s triumph but his unwavering commitment to securing his family’s future, even at the cost of his life. This vulnerability even manages to elicit a forgotten spark in the hardened heart of Crowe’s character, Ben Wade, leading to an unexpected but deeply satisfying conclusion where Wade aids Evans in realizing his goal.

WOW. I wish the ending were different, but I can’t fault the movie for properly following its source material.

I liked this one so much I bought the Blu-ray. It's really compelling with good acting and storyline. Because the ending was not real believable I took off a star. It's definitely worth the watch
