CODA Reviews

Apr 24, 2025

It could have been more, much more. However, the unity and passion of its carefully crafted characters shows that CODA is, after all, truly deserving of its awards and achievements. With a striking and encouraging protagonist, the film portrays many situations that hearing-impaired people face, and spreads its family drama like a new and colorful brush passing across the screen. It is a beautiful, family-friendly story, and, in addition, the musical element makes everything even more exuberant and magical.

There are two, maybe three, movies that have ever made me cry. This is one of them. It's beautiful down to every detail. This is one of my favorite movies ever.

The screenplay and the emotions that they carry is whole another level, the movie convey its massage in a wary enjoying and eye watering way I loved the whole movie the cast and mainly the songs and how ruby explained the song to her parents

I love to sing and I love music. I can’t imagine what life would be like without it. This movie helped me understand a little better how it would be. The acting was wonderful.

I loved this movie. It opened my eyes to the difficulties of life with no hearing. The climatic scene in the auditorium gave me insight into the struggles that others face and overcome. A beautiful movie.

Gets a little twee toward the end. Really not much of anything to say about this one. It's solid, sweet and kinda dumb, in a lovable and equally forgettable way. It's basically a charming, innocuous film about the importance and value of a family unit that sticks together. It's a simple message, reinvigorated when explained through an engaging and unusual family dynamic, I guess. I dunno, I may have already forgotten it.

The movie features coming of age and growing up poor tropes. Its success comes from the difference of the central characters and the outstanding performances.

CODA is a beautiful and heartfelt movie that stays with you long after the credits roll. The story is simple yet powerful, focusing on Ruby, the only hearing member of a deaf family, as she balances her dreams and her responsibilities. The relationship between Ruby and her parents is touching, especially the emotional scenes where they communicate their love and support despite their differences. The performances are outstanding, particularly by Emilia Jones, who plays Ruby, and Troy Kotsur, whose role as Ruby's father adds humor and depth to the story. CODA is more than just a coming-of-age story, it's about family, acceptance, and finding your own voice. It's a movie that will make you laugh, cry, and appreciate the small, meaningful moments in life. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves heartfelt stories with an uplifting message.

A lovely movie for people who love their families and love to sing. There were so many beautiful scenes - in particular, when the father is watching his daughter sing and can not hear the words but connects to the emotions on people's faces when his daughter is singing. Splendid! Easy to see why this movie won three Oscars.

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie and believe it accurately displays how the deaf community is ignored and treated like crap by the hearing community. No frills, car chases or pyrotechnics. Just a well-told, well-acted movie for all ages.

Brilliantly thought provoking and brilliant.

It isn't the best picture, neither is it the most compelling, but CODA overcomes its near-cloying narrative with satisfying character development and uniquely comical commentary on inter-family relationships.

Organically original with complex balance and subtle emotion, that carries it a long way as it does enough to make one want to see how it ends even if one is not the target audience. Didn’t like the songs used, kinda cringy.
