Night Swim Reviews
Not even remotely as bad as some critics said but still far from great, Night Swim is a fun & spooky little chiller that's like a late 80s - early 90s horror movie with solid Blumhouse production value.
Saw it in theatres with my friend when it came out. Some of the jumpscares got us good and the VFX were gnarly at times. I remember not liking the hairy thing. Not bad but I’ve definitely seen better horror than this.
While not as bad as everyone says with frankly solid cinematography especially during the underwater sequences and the cast doing a good job but for a thriller about an haunted swimming pool it takes itself way too seriously and it gets dull by the halfway point
This had a decent enough start, and I was sort of vibing with it in the first 15 minutes, but man did it drop off as the movie progressed. The performers are not at fault. I love the performers, great cast. I just found it to be not only generic, but also pretty bad, and uninteresting. Some unintentionally funny moments, which made the watching experience a bit more fun, but in general just lacked substance, and was not spooky nor fun. And I've had four mugs of wine, I should be having the time of my life.
One of the most anticipated horrors of 2024 but failed big time. It didn't even tackle how the pool become evil
The build-up was promising, but the ending felt rushed and sloppy, all horror aspects were lost at the end, causing a disappointing finish
A haunted swimming pool. Yeah, it's as naff as it sounds.
Oh no, the pool is evil! God what is this? This movie is a pool of murky water with bodies in it.
When I was 10 I was scared of swimming pools, not for any logistical reason because they aren't scary at all; which Night Swim demonstrates in it's entirety. But because I had an irrational phobia of sharks. Now if the pool summoned a demon shark that ate people, that would change everything and maybe then I could get on board with this movie.
Utterly dreadful from the plot, to the effects to the script. Contains all the usual references/prompts and very, very predictable. Not even mildly scary. Skipped through most of it.
One of the worst movies i've ever seen.
This is seriously getting an unfair shake so I'm here to defend a movie that I feel reviewers weren't even paying attention to with some of the things being said. Is it a masterpiece? No. It's a movie about a haunted swimming pool. It answers the questions you can ask. It answers why they don't stop going in. It answers why they don't just leave. It answers how this keeps happening. You just actually have to pay attention. The effects arent great. For some reason at one point they decided using a CGI toy boat was a better idea than just buying a toy boat. The acting is solid, even the kids and that's rare. If you're looking for something that should win an Oscar maybe don't watch a movie about a haunted swimming pool. The premise is fun. It was a fun watch. It's an hour and a half so it doesn't overstay. It's fine.
the movie I'm not sure how it went because I'm an action first type of gyal so I fell asleep within the first 20 mins
Sucks. The biggest problem this has is the whole idea just isn't scary and is a stupid idea at its core. and if by some miracle you even did make it a good idea it still isn't executed well at all either. The editing, pacing, cinematography is all terrible here. It feels like once the family moves in, stuff just happens. Half the time you could either rearrange or cut almost every scene and it wouldn't change hardly anything anything outside of the ending 15 minutes or so. There are just some dumb scenes also. The pool can posses people so why doesn't it posses the other people who used it at the party to stop them from destroying it at the end? Than there are stupid pointless jump scare, basic direction, and half the time it's so dark during night time it looks the most boring. Not so dark you can barely see though so credit there. The Dad who is setup as the main guy it almost feels like we forget about him for like the whole 30 minutes leading to the end also. It never really keeps the kids, wife, or parents together consistently either so it ends up feeling jumpy and pointless honestly. The whole sister swimming with her boyfriend feels pointless. Visiting the Asian family before felt pointless also. There really isn't any way to defeat it so it just wins in the end with the taking the Dad so it all ends up feeling like everything else was pointless. That being said the acting isn't good and the soundtrack isn't either. No one really has much chemistry and while the parents are fine enough the kids really aren't anything special and defintely weaker than the parents performance. and they end up taking a bigger role in the second half so it shows. More than anything too this isn't scary at all. Just stupid and pointless. Half the jumpscares you can see coming involving the pool a mile away and the other half make no sense. Skip this. Completely stupid idea and a waste of time.
started off promising but really fell half-way towards the end. Dad's character arc is just giving Amytiville Horror which is so overdone. the family had great chemistry though and I wish they could've dived more in the lore of the monster haunting the pool.
I was scared. I was entertained. 5 stars
Remind me to never take recommendations from my 10 year old ever again. Whoever agreed to fork over the funds to make this movie, give me a call. I have a script about a squirrel that makes a mean chicken pot pie.
Good film, But it's WAY too predictable to scare anyone
