Peggy Sue Got Married Reviews
This was a really quite delightful film. It was far more than just any old fun 80s comedy that any other directors would've made with this concept. Francis Ford Coppola gives this film a great amount of emotional depth in its characters, very skillful use of music, and simply stunning photography. Peggy Sue Got Married easily could've been just another film, but great writing and directing make this a very enjoyable watch.
It isn’t very funny is the main problem; little good dialogue, not very interesting characters or lively scenes. Turner was in semi-agony most of the time; fainted with the horror of being queen of the reunion. Oh please. Cage was one-note stupid; sounded like his tongue got in the way of the words he was trying to push out. He was touching now and again. The concept sounded good, if familiar, but it never got fleshed out properly. - Pace is - well - leisurely. Her grandad and his club were cool, when we saw them briefly at the end. It seems Coppola doesn’t do comedy well. Peggy Sue Got Married is a pastel, which is not his metier.
Lindinho...
i'd pick a different actress for the lead but the movie is great. it is indeed verisimilitudinous, it felt honest all throughout.
An opportunistic Peggy finds herself back in time where she clashes with her own selfish (and horny) persona and rewrites history when she coerces 3 High School virgins with the power of her beaver. -LADIES, this one's for you; enjoy the fantasy. -GUYS, skip this one unless you want to see an emasculated Nick Cage.
Warm but bit pointless dull story, it feels like it could have much more in it, its not like its not any fun, but could be way better
Nic Cage talks through his nose the entire movie, then he ups his game by SINGING in the same voice as part of a doo-wop a cappella group with Jim Carrey, of all people. Apparently his insistance on doing this weird voice was a major problem on the set. Peggy Sue Got Married could have been a simple bit of nostalgia bait, giving middle-aged former kids in the 1980s a bit of a trip down memory lane with conversations in the bathroom and cruising down Main Street. While there are plenty of moments where Kathleen Turner revels in her unusual circumstances by giving advice about new inventions or reconnecting with lost family, there's plenty more for her to explore - missed connections, regrets, new opportunities, all the things that have gradually built up in her own mind over the years and twisted by nostalgia, but that she now sees with fresh eyes. Some golden opportunities may not have been so golden, and it turns out there are some things that we might take for granted. There's a surprising and utterly charming moment where she confides in her late grandfather that she's become a time traveler, and he not only instantly believes her but rallies his buddies to help her out, it's very cute. No idea what Cage was doing because he's still patently insane, but there's thankfully a bit more to this Francis Ford Coppola flick than some well-placed investment advice. Glad Sofia Coppola turned out to be an interesting and accomplished filmmaker, because she doesn't really up her acting game here. (3/5)
A distaff Back to the Future for adults. But you know what? It's even better than that. Because Francis Ford Coppola doesn't go for the whiz bang of the effects; or the buzzkill off the plot twists; buzzing along like an action movie toy; the way Future does. This doesn't go for effects; it goes for memories. It goes for the verisimilitude of the time period; the carefully recreated magic that only nostalgia brings; and in that sense Peggy has Future beaten hands down. This feels much more real! It has the eerie, bittersweet rush you get when you open an old high school yearbook. The performances are all universally fine; even Nicholas Cage, who would only appear in a "Norman Rockwell movie like this if (he) could use a Gumby or Pokey voice". And he does, and you know what? It's dorky but it works. And Kathleen is just superb. One little plot hole I noticed about this movie though: Peggy spends most of the movie obsessed with NOT hooking up with Charlie again; not letting history repeat itself; as she got pregnant the last time with Charlie on Graduation Night, and it ruined her life; essentially tying her to Charlie forever. So she's bending over backwards this time to make sure that doesn't happen. But doesn't she care about her daughter? Her daughter that she loves so much? Doesn't she care this will obliterate her out of existence? That should have been addressed at some point! But still, .overall a near-perfect nostalgia piece. Highly recommended.
Coppola during his settling down period. He loses none of his story-telling magic.
There is a Back to the Future feel to this movie as Peggy Sue travels back to her high school days. Kathleen Turner playing a 17-year-old flawlessly is worth the price of a ticket. Nicholas Cage as her boyfriend and husband is good, but not nearly as good as Turner. All in all, a fun movie.
I loved this one when I was a kid, and watched it recently as an adult, and cried through just about the whole thing, even though there are some very funny bits for a Coppola film. Kathleen Turner is stunning in this, and it's probably her best work, considering she doesn't crack up facing those big fake teeth on her leading man. This one really pulls on the heartstrings for me, as it delves into nostalgia for the past, and what would happen if you could go back? I think my relationship to this one has changed now that I'm adult, too. Once you are a parent you do kind of wake up in that hospital bed after passing out at your high school reunion, and you realize you never wanted to impress anyone in your high school anyway, that you're happiest being Helen Hunt's Mom.
A remarkably awful movie. You watch this and wonder "this was the man made Apocalypse Now? The Godfather? The Conversation? " Did Coppola just skip school and let some d-lister 온라인카지노추천 director take over. Turner and Cage both look like they are straining to push out a turd. Success!
The romance was really hard to get behind.
Nick Cage and Time Travel! Fantastic!!
Peggy Sue got married is a very special film. Genres, styles, casts, directors, actors, score and Kathleen Turner smush together. Superb. She loves you, ooh ooh ooh.
I gave this movie 2 stars this is nostalgia from when I was younger. This movie was always on t.v. I have not seen this movie in a while I liked it when I was younger. Love the 50's nostalgia but what I can remember a lot of small talk and is kinda slow, cute though.
This films idea is fantastic but the one thing I took away from the movie is that Peggy Sue is a terrible mother!
