Reminiscence Reviews
Beyond the surface novelty of the setting and premise, there's not much here that could exactly be called original. But the layering of reflections and shadows has a ghostly glamour of its own.

Like its characters, it's drunk on what came before, relying too heavily on noir tropes. But its smart, thought-provoking concept isn't so easy to shake off.

Joy doesn't lack for ideas. It's just that there are too many and few of them original.

The corny script and the static direction are both by Lisa Joy from the 온라인카지노추천 show Westworld. This is her first feature film. It probably won't be her last, but hope springs eternal.

It's as if the film itself is [wearing a costume] - and there's not much beneath that layer.

It's a clever tale, anchored by Jackman doing reliable work as an antihero haunted by his sins.

As a noir mystery, Reminiscence is certainly solid, with a series of complications and surprising reveals.

Reminiscence has imagination to spare, but it doesn't deliver the precious memories it promises.

Lisa Joy has the potential to be a major film-maker.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Aug 22, 2021
The director has great fun playing with genre tropes, but it's unclear whether she's going for heightened camp.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Aug 22, 2021
It wants to be Chinatown meets Blade Runner, but it has about the worst dialogue I've heard in a film in forever.

Once Reminiscence gets rolling, it's a slick and satisfying ride that barrels to an ending that is suitably beautiful and bleak.
| Original Score: A- | Aug 20, 2021
Reminiscence is the damnedest thing - a movie filled with promising concepts it doesn't get around to exploring, because it's dedicated to a romantic mystery that's never very romantic or mysterious.
| Aug 20, 2021
Perhaps the greatest crime of Reminiscence is how effortlessly it wastes the collective appeal of its A-list cast.
| Original Score: 2/4 | Aug 20, 2021
Even Hugh Jackman's indisputable star power can't light up the pretentious, pseudo-poetic, sci-fi murk of this thundering misfire, which will only make you remember other, better movie mindbenders. 'Blade Runner' anyone?

For a film about memories, Reminiscence is ultimately truly forgettable.

A burdensome slog.
| Original Score: 2/4 | Aug 20, 2021
Reminiscence's noir adornments inadvertently feel closer to parody than loving homage.
| Original Score: 2/4 | Aug 19, 2021
I sank into restlessness and thought of a phrase from "Krapp's Last Tape," not a movie but the peerless play by Samuel Beckett -- "drowned in dreams and burning to be gone." While Nick was doing the drowning, I was doing the burning.

It's visually inviting, but as flimsy as a paper doll in its themes.
