I like to give first-time directors a chance. What we have with this movie is a story that takes its time. Let me reminisce for a moment, and explain: Great acting. Nothing is melodramatic here. Good action. This is slow-burn sci-fi, so it's more character-driven than action-driven, but the action we do get is thrilling and grounded. Great themes, great dialog. Anyone who overthinks, over obsesses, or over-analyzes their past, present, or future, will appreciate the obsessions of our leading man. A lot of solid, applicable-to-life lines. Great shots. A few examples are: 1. Water dripping off a counter after overflowing out of a glass. 2. An illuminated ferris wheel behind Nick as he searches for Mae in a fairground at night. 3. Nick imagining Mae swimming down to him in a flooded building, shafts of light making her appear ethereal and ghostlike. Great ideas. The Reminiscence machine and the flooded city are great plot points, and drive the film. Good narration. Hugh Jackman's voice is soothing, and never feels like he's expo-dumping. Every bit of voiceover is right where it should be. Great lighting. Every scene feels almost dream-like, and may very well be. Great mind-bender. You will leave this movie either hating it for what you didn't understand, or mindblown about what you saw and wanting to pick it apart to know more. You might even love it for its mystery, like Nick Bannister loves Mae for hers. A few too many characters. A lot of different people are introduced throughout the story, and not all of them get enough screen time. An unnecessary sensual scene. Nick is just getting to know Mae, and they kick things off by fornicating on a chair. For me personally, characters having sex right away doesn't equate to true love. But Nick's love for Mae is, thankfully, fleshed out to where you understand why he's so desperate to get her back. Overall, this is a solid debut from Lisa Joy. It's a film to watch again. Much like Nick uses the Reminiscence machine to find more out about Mae, over and over, you may need to watch this again and again, to understand everything. Not everyone will appreciate this movie, but for those that do, it promises to leave you reminiscing well after the credits roll.

Slow, boring story line.

Good movie. Nice storylines and talented actors. Has a few slow parts but overall I enjoyed it.

Bad acting & script.

I thoroughly enjoyed the movie although my wife found it very confusing with all the flashbacks (from the machine). I reminded me of Casablanca at the beginning, even though it was SciFi and in the future. It was a breath of fresh air from all the super heroes and horror movies we are inundated with now. It was, at times, bordering on being a GREAT movie but it did miss that mark , but only just.

It was a lot different than I expected from a High Jackman movie. He couldnt seem to defend himself at all. I liked the actors and actresses but it was just not that kind of movie that kept my attention

Interesting concept, held interest.

It's one of those movies that was just ok. I wouldn't watch it again or purchase it. It's not terrible but it didn't make me want to watch it again.

Good plot, great special effects, good acting.

hugh jacfkman was so sexy and in the best shape and really looked good with that girl a perfect match. I found it interesting something different.

Slow, more on the character interaction and less of the times/environment (which was a fascinating premise in itself) than I would have liked. just barely worth watching.

Definitely not Hugh Jackman's best. It dragged from the start and didn't raise my interest throughout. The ending was ridiculous! Would NOT recommend this.

I Really Enjoyed This Film!! It was very Mysterious and Many Twists And Turns!! A MUST SEE!! The Cast was Fabulous and Excellent Chemistry!!

2/11 Its legit so bad omfg Hugh jackman tried his hardets to carry, but alas... Sometimes 1v9 is impossible for even the best... This is what happens when the challenger... BECOMES THE CHALLENGED!

It kept me on my toes but thought it was a bit too long

Enjoyed watching the handsome Hugh Jackman. Movie was just OK.

So so sad to see this story and acting potential put to waste- wanted to leave after the first 40 minutes. The dialogue and editing was holding the audience’s hand the whole time which made it slow and super corny at times.

The story was a little slow. I ended up wondering more of what happened before the movie started. It was talked a little about but would have liked to have more info. I think that would have added to the movie.

It was good,but seen better

My wife and I really enjoyed the movie. It reminded me of the 6th sense. We discussed this movie more then any we have seen in a while. Worth seeing. We were hesitant on seeing it after the low reviews.
