The Exorcist: Believer Reviews
Was great from Beginning to Middle but went all downhill from there sadly….
I think they did an amazing job with this movie. As a horror fan I would recommend this movie. The special effects was on point with this movie. Very few movies leave a lasting impression on me these days but I have to say this one did.
The Exorcist: Believer made no freaking sense. I was ready for some spooky demon vibes, but it’s like they threw a bunch of random crap at the wall and called it a movie. Two possessed girls? Sure, but good luck figuring out why anything’s happening—it’s a jumbled mess of loud nonsense. The nods to the original just confused things more, like they couldn’t decide if it’s a sequel or a reboot. Acting’s okay, but the plot’s so all over the place I gave up trying to follow it. Total brain-scratcher—rather stick to the classic and save myself the headache.
No scares and not funny enough to watch the mess through.
I didn't think an Exorcist movie couldn't get worse than the second movie then David Gordon Green works his magic and some how for the second time makes the worst movie in the franchise. Why does this man keep getting good jobs he's terrible in the horror genre. This Exorcist movie really sucked
Not bad but the original will always be the best
The Exorcist Believer (2023). It's not as bad as Halloween (2018) and Halloween Ends (2022) are those pair of much worse garbage films. It's good that David Gordon Green stopped directing Horror Films. With that nonsense of rewriting the canon of previous films. They should now make a remake attached to William Peter Blatty's books of The Exorcist and Legion. The plot of several religions uniting for exorcism is plagiarized from Repossessed (1990).
The Exorcist: Believer unfortunately lacks flavour. While it had a decent start, the second and final acts are plagued by overused horror clichés and a storyline that somewhat retreads the original while introducing two girls possessed by cringeworthy demonic “drip, drip, drip” dialogue. This direction resulted in a significant letdown, potentially squandering the opportunity for a fresh and exciting take on the Exorcist franchise. I couldn’t help but feel sorry for the elderly Ellen Burstyn, who seemed to be struggling with the forced nature of her cameo. Grading: D
You can see what the filmmaker and the writers were trying to accomplish, and in some ways it wasn’t bad. But if you are going to make a movie based in the Exorcist universe, youre gotta have huge expectations and you will need to fully commit to it or don’t do it at all. Seemed like they kinda half—assed it.
This movie was an okay in the exorcist franchise . I wouldn’t say this movie was scary in my opinion( however I know everyone has different levels of what they can take) I believe the last good one that gave me a scare was the exorcist of Emily rose. I did like that this movie depict a lot of stuff that confirm to reality. I definitely like the take on how different things or practices cause still me rooted in praising god or protecting from evil. The two little girl aspect was different, considering most exorcist movie are just focus on one protagonist character. If you are into horror, religious or suspense films you will enjoy this movie. However, I wouldn’t watch this movie more than once.
Not bad, not at all, but not the best horror movie.
Thankfully the director was fired. Absolutely the worst film in the series. Three different exorcisms at the same time was one of the stupidest things I've ever seen in cinema. Everyone was talking over eachother and couldn't understand anyone. James Wan will do a much better job and hopefully can pick up the pieces and turn around this trash.
Não achei horrível, sei lá.
It would've been much better as a 30 minute film.
This hardly qualifies as a sequel. I didn't get the point of having Ellen Burstyn brought back. Her character adds zero contributions to the story. And Linda Blair just makes a cameo in the end. And where's is Pazuzu? The Exorcist series was more of a sequel than this. The movie in itself is boring and not nearly as scary as the orignal. The plot tells nothing about who the demon was and why he possessed the girls - a must have in any possession movie. And the exorcism scene is ridiculous. Spoiler alert: There are a lot of people trying to perform the exorcism but in the end the demon just decides to leave and kills one the girls whose father he tricked to choose for surviving. Argghhh!
The Exorcist: Believer is another misguided effort from sometimes genius David Gordon Green. Known best for relaunching the Halloween franchise and then destroying it with the abysmal Halloween Ends, Gordon Green is given the green light here to do the same with The Exorcist franchise. However, instead of establishing the necessary lore to build a trilogy of these films on, Gordon Green settles for an effects-heavy exorcism flick that could exist in any other franchise, if it were not for the presence of Ellen Burstyn. Burstyn, in what should be an Oscar-worthy return as Chris MacNeil, is mostly sidelined in the drama and doesn’t even get to witness the exorcism this time around. It’s a story filled with wasted potential. In the end, no one’s faith is restored in the plot or in Gordon Green’s hackneyed handling of this subject.
This movie was reasonably well acted and it looked good. It was never scary though, and the final quarter of the film made it seem like an edgy Youth Group film. It almost became literally an evangelism film. Don't waste your time.
**Exorcist: Believer** – ★★☆☆☆ As someone who loves the original *Exorcist*, I was really excited to see *Believer*, especially since Ellen Burstyn and Linda Blair came back. But they only showed up for a few minutes, which was a huge letdown. The movie drags so much at the start, and when things finally start happening, it's just... boring. Nothing scary, and honestly, some scenes were so weird they made me laugh instead of scream. It was nice to hear the original music, but that’s about the only good thing. Having two girls possessed just didn’t work – it’s hard to care about either of them. The whole movie felt more like a drama than a horror, missing all the intense and creepy vibes from the first one. I've seen way better exorcism movies with way less budget. Really disappointing overall – the original will always be the best.
A faithful homage to the original and a good possession movie but it tries way too hard to connect with the original movie, it starts strong but drives itself off a cliff halfway through and never recovers.
