The Union Reviews

Julian Farino has done a creditable job of directing his first action film, adding to his well-rated line-up of documentaries. The formula works and there will probably be a follow-up.

| Original Score: 3/5 | Jan 9, 2025

With action, ritzy locations, charismatic leads, and smart one-liners, ‘The Union’ is the very definition of time pass

| Oct 4, 2024

“The Union” boasts a smattering of fine shootouts and car chases through the streets of London, but the rest is generic MacGuffin spy mash with a lazy ladling of rom-com.

| Original Score: 2/4 | Sep 23, 2024

A "fold your laundry" movie if I've ever seen one.

Mark Wahlberg and Halle Berry have both been in better things than The Union. A London based action thriller, that proves to be neither action-packed, nor particularly thrilling. This is polished and packaged Netflix dross at its most mundane.

If you’ve watched a spy film in the last 20 years, it’s not that hard to see how it’s going to play out. And there’s nothing here to justify taking this nearly two-hour below average basic spy slog.

The Union is barely a movie. It's just a series of poorly executed action scenes and jokes. Your typical Netflix trash. I would typically try to come up with something more creative to say but The Union didn't bother to, so why should I?

Our leads are fine, and the action does its job, but nothing about this story is memorable or interesting.

| Original Score: 4/10 | Sep 13, 2024

Good chemistry between the actors can make an average movie just a little bit better.

| Original Score: 6/10 | Sep 7, 2024

The Union is one of those canny Wahlberg movies that break down the American crisis with understandable narrative simplicity.

The Union is very much Bond-lite stuff...

| Original Score: 3/5 | Aug 28, 2024

A decent comedy trapped inside a DOA riff on 'Bourne.'

| Original Score: C+ | Aug 28, 2024

The action sequences are well choreographed, the international locations are eye-catching, and the actors seem to be having fun, especially Wahlberg. But it could all have been more.

A by-the-numbers action comedy....though the movie is competently put together..it all feels prefabricated.

| Original Score: C | Aug 27, 2024

The Union exemplifies the worst characteristics associated with the term "Netflix flick," presenting a predictable, forgettable movie that fails in almost all the essential aspects of a remarkable film.

The idea here is to provide a good time on the living room chair, without worrying about something other than what's in the refrigerator to nosh on during the occasion. [Full review in Spanish]

| Original Score: 3/4 | Aug 26, 2024

…The Union is just another Red Notice or The Grey Man; generic green-screen shlock with an overqualified cast, designed to be watched while you’re doing the ironing…

| Original Score: 2/5 | Aug 24, 2024

The Union" defies logic to such an extent that no amount of suspension of disbelief could ever justify it.

| Original Score: 1/4 | Aug 23, 2024

The Union succeeds because of its complete lack of any agenda or any pretentiousness.

| Original Score: 8/10 | Aug 23, 2024

There's nothing here you haven't seen a hundred times over in other, better, spy movies or action-comedies, yet it's still surprisingly watchable.
