Each segment runs too long; and none of them has the kind of killer ending an anthology film deserves. But they do all deliver what they promise: a 1999 look and vibe, with moments designed to make audiences squirm.

“V/H/S/99” smartly dispenses with the wraparound plot that was always the worst part of all its predecessors, but finds a creative if unnecessary connective tissue.

While V/H/S/99 is a far cry from the original, it still manages to be far more fun than it has any right to be.

It pulls the rug out from under you... shifting once again to become phantasmagoric, Lovecraftian cosmic nightmare.

As an overall film, I found it more inconsistent than the stronger reboot V/H/S/94 as a few of the segments here just don’t work, but I admired the angry yell that this film resembles as a whole.
