V/H/S/99 Reviews
Puede ser la que menos propósito tiene en la franquicia, ya que no hay algo que una estos segmentos y solo parece una recopilación sin estructura narrativa. Pero esta termina siendo mucho más rescatable e interesante que la decepcionante V/H/S/94.
The V/H/S series now features more short stories at the dawn of the new millennium It’s the final punk rock days of analog technology The stories here center on a punk rock band with a devils curse, a college student in a hazing ritual by a sorority when at a cemetery, a kids tv battle show involving vengeful relatives, a group of friends filming pranks gawking at an attractive woman, and a group of people participating in a demon summoning that has hellish consequences The first segment is pretty self explanatory The second segment feels very satisfying given it delivers a comeuppance Although the third segment is more disturbing than scary The 4th one is quite the shocker taking a jab at the male gaze although some of the cgi looks a big dollar store quality The 5th one actually is the most creative because it goes all out taking some biblical influences Overall this chapter in the franchise is one of the best covering urban legends and internet folklore in the Y2K era You get the scares, the entertainment, the gore, and the laughs
It’s just good enough to not be a regrettable watch. Lot of misses, but it’s entertaining even when the horror sucks. Second sketch (Sorority Pledge) is the best in terms of horror. 4th is entertaining (The Gawkers). Ozzy’s Dungeon (3rd sketch) is a big miss for me, but it was an interesting swing at the ball. 5th sketch was pretty sh*t imo. 1st skit was not very good either.
Definitely the worst in the series, but still fun Pros. Stop Motion bits were great, Everything looks great, visually just cool, decent story premises, and I had fun with that. Cons Almost everyone in the movie was such an ass, I found myself rooting for them to die
🍀 5.6/10 I got this on steel book And I’ll just say for the DVD cover itself it is sick but getting into the actual logistics of the movie. This is probably some of the worst pile of segments we’ve had for a bit even kind of makes me like 94 a little more. So here’s my takes. Shredding Walmart fnaf but emo 6/10 Suicide bid Lily kinda look like Billie Eilish a little effective, due to the performances, but just kind of stale. 5/10 Izzy’s dungeon Steven Ogg was here to act and act he did. The segment started off pretty good, and then I started to not really like where it went afterwards, but then definitely picked up by the end with some of the practical effects. Pretty entertaining but a little disappointing. 6/10 The Gawkers Amateur night. But not as good. 5/10 To Hell And Back Hell girl Gollum was pretty fun. Some of the Gore and the designs of characters and this was pretty fun. But very straight to the point to the point that you almost just get thrown in here but understandable. 5.5/10 Anyways there wasn’t really a stand out segment. There were certain things that happened in segments that I enjoyed but this is definitely one of the more weaker VHS entries. Not as bad as viral, though so there’s that. I liked the slow motion segments 👍 Average score 5.5/10 Grade B-
Bolder than 94 but a bit inconsistent, V/H/S/99 is still a good horror movie and great addition to the titular V/H/S franchise.
A reasonably entertaining horror anthology movie. For me, not as good as V/H/S/94, as some of the stories are not as watchable as those in the previous movie. That said, some pretty chilling and gory stories in amongst this lot. Worthwhile for horror buffs if you enjoyed the previous movie, albeit not quite up to the overall standard of its predecessor.
Definitely the worst of the series, I didn’t truly enjoy any of the stories in this one. But it’s still worth the watch.
A VHS tape from '99 holds thrills and chills. Solid mix of short tales. The homemade stop motion bits were hilarious. The tales: Shredding--a punk rock band that loves pulling pranks break into a condemned music venue in which the members of their favorite band perished in a fire. Overly long build-up to the action but finale is frenetic. Suicide Bid--a sorority pledge is made to stay in a coffin overnight. Gripping performance from lead. Ozzy's Dungeon--a children's game show hides a dark secret. The weakest of all of them but the finale is amazing. The Gawkers--young boys decide to spy on their sexy new neighbor. Hilarious and scary. To Hell and Back--what happens when a summoning goes wrong. Features Melanie Stone from the Mythica series chewing up the scenery as a mix of Gollum and Dobby. Recommended
Es lo peor que he visto en mi vida. La peor combinación de imitación de cortos, mal actuados, mal filmados, sin pies ni cabeza, carentes de historia y coherencia.
This was a bit better than I thought it would be. There were some cute guys in this!
Not as good as some of the earlier VHS films, I would pass on this one
Utter tripe. I've been a fan of the V/H/S series since the first one and it's a travesty to see what it's become. Usually there's only one or two bad segments per film but since moving to Shudder the quality has dropped dramatically. A bunch of the shots are a noticeably higher resolution than the VHS it claims to be filmed on, and it's painfully obvious. Plus there are glaring audio sync issues; yells that don't match up with the mouths on screen for example. Overall a dreadful movie I wouldn't recommend to anybody who's a fan of the previous entries to the franchise. But still, I had to suffer through each of these individual sections and via the medium of criticism, now you can too! I'll try to keep this as spoiler free as possible, just in case you don't heed my warning that staring at a blank wall in complete silence for 2 hours would be preferable to watching this movie. The first section with the bands is just a dreadful cringe-fest of teenagers having been written by people who've never even been in the same building as teenagers. The dialogue made my skin crawl and just as you think it's about to be even remotely rewarding, it lets you down worse than I did my parents when I decided to be a musician myself. 2/10, for at least having a decent premise in the middle. Then it takes you to the sorority hazing video. The less said about this the better. I didn't even realise I was watching the main part of that segment, I thought I was still in the setup. I found myself waiting for the good bit, and then it gives you the "payoff" as if it had even earned it. In earlier films there was a story to be told in each tape, but this lacks any sort of substance at all and relies entirely on the makeup effects and claustrophobia to provide the scare. 0/10, Ryan Reynolds did it better. Ugh, moving forward unfortunately and we end up at the game show segment. You know what? The actual game show itself was an interesting idea. It's a real shame they took it in the direction they did. I would have stayed on set with that, have things slowly start to devolve over time and then have the final test of the game show provide the scare. But it switches to some kind of torture-p*rn for a spell, and dives balls-first in to the supernatural for seemingly no reason at all. Again, nothing of this is earned and whoever half-baked this idea needs to be removed from the Shudder kitchen immediately. 1/10, a single point awarded for nearly having an original idea. Next the tape that has been providing the link between each of the tapes gets recorded over by the brother of the kid making the link tape, which I would give credit to, but the link tape in previous movies had a reason for them to be linked. The 2nd film did this best, with the investigators looking for the man who was a tape collector. This just seems to be a bunch of perverts for the worst part of 15 minutes with diabolical dialogue; once again proving the creators of this film have never seen a teenager up close (presumably for legal reasons). You might as well skip to when you see the gratuitous breasts in this one because you're missing absolutely nothing. 0/10, arguably a worse rehash of the spy-glasses segment from a previous entry The closing part suffers from a bad case of "I'm so startled" syndrome, but otherwise I've got to give props for originality. Comes in strong and drops you right in it, along with the protagonists. The comedy could be toned down a lot, as it detracts from this being the single solitary unnerving part of the entire movie. I'll be generous and give this one a 6/10 for being a strong premise and an interesting exploration of comradery, albeit completely out of place in a movie like this.
Shredding: 1.5 stars Suicide Bid: 2 stars Ozzys Dungeon: 1 star The Gawkers: 2.5 stars To Hell And Back: 4 stars Overall: 2 stars
Pretty good one. Not quite as good as VHS94 or VHS2, but it's better than all the other ones.
A true millennial nightmare, this static-filled sequel double dares you to remember the worst parts of the life pre-Y2K.
It's ok but I don't know if the franchise has fallen off or not.
Felt like each vignette was maybe 5 minutes too long. Practical effects were decent and a good choice. 1. Was fun enough, maybe a few too many fakeouts. 2. Was pretty low on tension, payoff was ok 3. Fun, inventive and fucked up. 4. Stupid 5. Wait, What?
