Late Night Reviews
Much of the plot points are easy to predict, and it doesn’t go quite as far as I think it could’ve concerning its themes. But the commentary it does offer is as refreshing as it is intelligently thought out.

This film is well-written, overall. Kaling does a fantastic job...

Kaling and Thompson excel in Late Night, an excellently written, brilliantly acted film that will entertain you, empower you, and make you wiser.

Here is a comedy from Mindy Kaling that has some bite, but a surprising lack of sharp teeth that plays it all too timidly.

It does not succeed on merit.

It's best to think of it less as a straightforward comedy and more of a social dramedy for our times.

The screenwriter (Kaling herself) and director Nisha Ganatra's hand is noticeable. [Full review in Spanish]

With late night 온라인카지노추천 as the backdrop, the film weaves light satire, political comedy and witty gags to create a wonderful and timely workplace comedy.

Comedy isn't usually my genre of choice but I couldn't turn down the combination of Emma Thompson and Mindy Kaling...

Mindy Kaling's smart script hits familiar notes with fresh panache, and overflows with howling mic-drop moments.

Late Night had the potential to break out with some pointed commentary about how women are treated in the entertainment industry, but it falls short at almost every turn.

A showcase for Thompson's ability to elevate any movie she appears in.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Jan 31, 2021
Not shying away from stereotypes and calling others out for following the status quo, it's a film that is hilarious from start to finish, allowing not only Kaling to shine, but Thompson as well.
| Original Score: 3.0/4.0 | Nov 20, 2020
As great as Kaling is... it's still Emma Thompson who still owns the show.

It has a lot to say about the positioning of famous women, and women of colour, in today's world.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Aug 15, 2020
Tackling ageism, sexism, privilege and racism, Kaling's script doesn't quite have the snappy one-liner ratio or political nous required for a movie set in this industry, but Thompson is as magnetic as ever and their chemistry together sparkle

Where Late Night goes off the rails is in its last third, which feels entirely disconnected from what precedes it.

An acerbic female buddy film.
