MobLand: Season 1 Reviews
The show itself is nothing special, a stale gangster story with nothing new to offer. Maybe someone with a fresher eye and sensibility than Guy Ritchie could’ve brought more energy to the table

This series is intense, gritty, and psychological.

Create an unholy alliance between Bennett, writer of the gangland drama Top Boy, and Ritchie, that purveyor of ludicrously OTT crime romps, and you’re hardly going to expect them to birth a courtly period romance. What we have instead is MobLand.

I really enjoyed seeing Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren play villains, with Tom Hardy easily stepping into the role of the even-keeled Harry, who can intimidate even the most dangerous adversary.

It’s a promising start -- the show even has a faint sense of humor -- and should hold down that Sunday night slot nicely for Paramount+ while Taylor Sheridan works on the next Yellowstone spin-off to keep his ranch in business.

Borderline daft but like MobLand in general, Hardy makes it funny and cool.

If MobLand is going to improve, it had better do so fast -- and they may have to include subtitles for Mirren.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Apr 7, 2025
Off to a promising start, MobLand needs to expand on the tension and star power in future episodes to keep viewers watching beyond Hardy and his grizzled accent.

A great cast gives this grisly and somewhat soapy melodrama “MobLand” a much-needed lift.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Apr 4, 2025
Guy Ritchie directs with in-your-face verve, but the members of Mobland’s central crime clan will have to stop being so uniformly psychotic for viewers to truly get lock, stock and smoking barrels invested.

The brilliance of Tom Hardy dominates the series, as he effortlessly cajoles and threatens without ever raising his voice, making for a riveting watch.
| Original Score: 3.5/5 | Apr 3, 2025
This isn’t peak Ritchie, but if you like cartoon gangsters and slapstick violence, climb aboard.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Apr 3, 2025
Hardy is magnetic in the role, providing an impressive lead performance that doesn't overshadow those provided by his co-stars, but instead compliments them.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Apr 1, 2025
The idea that a Tom Hardy character cajoling, threatening or influencing someone is an art form in itself is the core of MobLand, a decent new gangster epic that casts Hardy as top fixer Harry Da Souza.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Apr 1, 2025
If MobLand feels familiar -- the head of an organized crime family fighting for power within a global crime syndicate -- well, at least the prickly character, terrific actors and sharp writing make it an engrossing watch nonetheless.

MobLand is a quickly-paced and intense high-stakes crime series that doesn’t feel entirely new. Still, it’s notably elevated by strong performances and smart directorial choices for a series that’s ultimately worth watching.

MobLand certainly has potential, and its lack of bombastic bilge is quite refreshing.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Mar 31, 2025
[Guy Ritchie] has always brought an endearing cartoonish zing to his work – a quality entirely lacking from this dour drama, which suffers from universally dislikable characters and a bland story about mobsters trying to expand their criminal empire.

It’s a sure bet that upcoming episodes of ‘MobLand’ will develop into a memorable action-packed series that will capture the audience’s imaginations with twists and turns along the way.

As much as I love when Hardy spits out an utterly unheard of enunciation, his casual everyman-ness gives Harry -- and his show! -- a jolt of authoritative star power that helps it start off strong.
