Quest for Fire Reviews
Think, Bristol - circa 1978……..
great movie about pre humans
The plot is actually fairly predictable however you do have to admire the effort that when into this and the bold choice of having no intelligible dialogue for the entire movie.
A silent movie that needs no dialogue to convey the emotions of the principal characters. Humorous and moving and surprisingly believable. I rank this film in my top ten.
who did this film is dumb or stupid or didnt had a good consultant! didnt read the book , didnt read anything connected with the prehistoric times
This is the most romantic movie ever, no joke! It's man and woman on a primitive level, where love conquers all, and is the true prize of the story.
it was one of the dumbest movies I have ever seen, like a cult type movie, I spent 3.99 I think, just to watch them jump around and grunt, funny but dumb
Best caveman movie. If you like caveman stuff then it's 5/5. If you don't like caveman stuff then don't watch it. doi.

Possibly my favorite film of all time (at least through 2020), "Quest for Fire" is an amazing achievement in audience communication where there is no modern language, and no subtitles translating the prehistoric languages used by the actors -- yet we understand every small nuance of the messages. Expert non-verbal gestures and expert linguistics power this prehistoric adventure. Watch it for the gorgeous scenery and the friendly mammoths. Learn how to make "atra" and watch out for the "Wuggaboo!"
Quest for Fire cuts to the chase of human emotions and evolving self-awareness. Set in pre-historic times, we are initially introduced to a tribe of early humans using fire as a tool. They lose the fire through an attack from another tribe. The fire keeper cannot keep the fire going through the attack and so three of the village men are sent on a quest for, you guessed it, fire. Along the way they discover humor, laughter, and love. It's the only movie I've ever watched without a single word of a real language spoken. Still it builds and remains engaging throughout. Layered and lush in its content and unfolding.
Quest for Fire is an odd film to watch by any established conventional standards. It's the cinematic equivalent of staring at a three-legged dog, where you watch with equal parts empathy and curiosity and a touch of disbelief. This may not be the best analogy, but, based on the subject matter, it is hard to get immersed in a story where you feel like a dispassionate outsider when watching. Set 80,000 years ago, it essentially deals with a tribe's discovery of the uses of fire and, more importantly, how to create fire. Scenes of conflict are not convincingly staged. The cinematography is either murky or bleached out most of the time. The grunting and ember-blowing gets tiresome. But, despite all of this, it can be compelling and fascinating at times…like a three-legged dog.
Movie teach Blobbo missionary position.
Considering that there is no comprehensable dialogue, Quest for fire is suprisingly gripping. You know whats going on in ever scene. The constume design seems good and so do all other aspects generally. All in all, If you want a pre-historic film to watch... watch this one. Noah: "uh ehh uhh ug urr huh..."
It does feel like the beginning of 2001 stretched to a full length feature, yet this unique film draws you in and makes you care about the characters.
This is a great movie this was one of my dad's fave movies of his when I was a kid/growing up. I have seen this movie so many times, and I watched it again for the first time since I was younger just now. It's a really good movie I understand it is not everyone's cup of tea there is no talking. Just caveman grunts there is a bit of uncomfortable parts though. I don't understand that some people find this movie boring it is really interesting in my opinion, 3 1/2 stars.
Much like a human being, what begins as somewhat hokey—like a poor imitation of the beginning to 2001, complete with the occasional wink from a fanfaring score—ends up being charming, intelligent (if rather loose with the science), warm, and remarkably funny, celebrating the complexity of experience both good and bad that makes us human, even at our most historically rudimentary. Regardless the necessary limitations of the effectively wordless screenplay, the corny prosthetics and makeup, or the narratively convenient anachronisms, the committed performances by the then-unknown leads have a way of pulling the viewer into the story, making you feel for and think about these people who exist on the borderline between feeling and thought, the demands of survival and the desire for more.
Starting is disgusting, middle is disgusting and the end is a little less disgusting but still disgusting! But I did not give it 1 star because the story was a little good.
Such a cool, yet ridiculous and original movie. Some of the set pieces are really impressive, as are the actors dedication. The lack of dialog doesn't stop this from being engaging. If anything it makes it more universal.
A dumb but unique film that's a Canadian classic
